Professional Mushers Association of British Columbia Code of Ethics
Members of the Professional Mushers Association of BC subscribe to a high standard of professional conduct and ethics. This code provides a standard of conduct for a professional musher and gives the client a clear indication of what to expect from a member.
The Association view any act of neglect of, or cruelty to dogs with serious concern and where relevant may instigate action under the BC Sled Dog Code of Practice.
Cases of cruelty to, or neglect of dogs by owners outside the Association's membership but brought to its attention should be reported to the BCSPCA.
Encourage an appreciation of, and respect for, our natural, cultural and aesthetic heritage among our clients, staff, and industry.
Foster public awareness of the economic, social, historical, cultural, and environmental significance of the Professional Mushing Industry
To mentor and guide new members towards a stronger, safer, world leading Professional Mushing Industry
An active member must provide a certificate of commercial insurance and be actively engaged in the guiding industry, and who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, should be granted an active membership.
A member shall neither trespass nor harm or tend to harm, the rights of other members, the PMABC or the Professional Mushing industry.
A member contravenes the Code of Ethics who gives false or misleading information to prospective customers, veterinarians and/or the Association.
A member shall practice sound wildlife conservation and promote and encourage its practice by others, and shall not, while engaged in guiding, kill game other than as required in the interest of human safety, or to relieve the humane plight of wounded dogs or animals.
A member shall maintain a degree of proficiency, responsibility, professional standard and conduct satisfactory to the membership and standards of the Association.
A member shall employ only competent guides with the prerequisite skills and knowledge of the tour area and tours tendered, to ensure that the contract between the client and operator is fulfilled. A member shall maintain a reasonable degree of supervision over employee/contract guides to ensure that the services offered are what are advertised to the client.
A member has a duty to uphold the standards and reputation of the PMABC and any of its members
